PGC-A. New feature

The terrain and obstacle proximity warning is one of the primary functions of Autonomous Portable Glass Cockpit System (PGC-A). The system provides visual and audible warnings when an aircraft tends to cross the terrain proximity line, 1.5 km aircraft motion prediction based on current flight parameters and warnings about dangerous attitude and speed values.

With the newest software release PGC-A provides enhanced obstacle avoidance capability. Now the terrain proximity line is calculated based on not only on terrain data but also takes into account the obstacles along the route. The terrain proximity line is displayed at the safety height (the value is set before flight) at the safety distance in front of the aircraft. The safety distance depends on current flight speed (the more the speed is, the more is the distance from the aircraft to the terrain proximity line).

TAWS, obstacle avoidance

The Autonomous Portable Glass Cockpit is a bring in equipment designed to introduce the functionality of a modern glass-cockpit type avionics into a cockpit of any rotor-wing or light fixed-wing aircraft. PGC-A includes its own navigation data source and commutation unit with built in battery thus being fully independent from any onboard system. PGC-A is involved into the whole range of flight operations from flight planning to flight data analysis. The system provides significant situation awareness improvement and enhances flight safety, especially under low visibility conditions.

CompaNav-2M with new GLONASS/GPS receiver

More and more our customers demand installation of GLONASS/GPS dual system receiver instead of single system GPS receiver in our GNSS-aided navigation systems. Meeting customer requirements all our navigation systems in standard configuration have internal GLONASS/GPS receiver. We regularly change the receiver model to provide our customers with reliable navigation solution optimal for each particular application. Now TeKnol carries out a flight test of CompaNav-2M navigation system with GLONASS/GPS GeoS-1M receiver developed by "GeoStar Navigation" Design Bureau. The manufacturer supplied us the OEM demo kit for test.

CompaNav-2M is a renewed modification of CompaNav-2 navigation system. The renewal involved electronics upgrade and the installation of the built in GNSS receiver.

Welcome to our booth at 5th International Maritime Defence Show!

International Maritime Defence Show (IMDS-2011) will take place on June 29 - July 3 in Lenexpo Exhibition Complex in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

IMDS holds the special place in the top list of worldwide exhibitions of naval armaments and technologies.

The Show's format is unique and unites in one display area:

  • exposition of military products presented by Russian and foreign enterprises;
  • demonstration of the armaments and naval equipment;
  • congress and business events;
  • visits to the defence industry enterprises and VIP negotiations.

The format of IMDS covers all steps of naval arms design and technology as a whole: shipbuilding, propulsion systems, naval armament systems, navigation and control systems, naval aviation, infrastructure of the deploying and ships' support, new materials and technologies. Much space is occupied by the companies that supply equipment, devices and electronic components, information technologies and provide consulting, financial and insurance services in the sphere of designing, shipbuilding and weapon development.

TeKnol welcomes you to visit our booth 514 in Hall 5!

Aerial survey of electric power lines

At the end of December 2010 the Moscow region survived abnormal nature phenomena - ice rain. Because of quick temperature lowering ordinary rain turned into thick heavy mass of ice covering trees, buildings and power lines. As the result, many trees and power lines were damaged, wires broken and some towns were cut from electricity supplies for many days. In order to find out and fix the possible places of electric power line damage and the sources of dissipation of energy and electric leakages the detailed aerial survey had been done. The survey was carried out by Mi-8 helicopter equipped with special research equipment and PGC-A on board. Details...

Flight test of new MEMS inertial navigation system

At the end of year 2010 the MEMS inertial navigation system "CompaNav-5" passed a series of flight tests. The test goal was to assess the accuracy characteristics of CompaNav-5 navigation system in inertial mode without correction from satellite navigation system. Some tests results are available on our web site.

The FAA proposes Helicopter Safety Rules restriction

A new Notice of Proposed Rule Making, published in the U.S Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) official web site, proposes restrictions of flight rules and procedures for helicopter operators, including air ambulances. Along with revising the weather issues for visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR), the new Safety Rules will oblige the helicopter medical services operators to equip the helicopters with Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS).

Flight test of CompaNav-2 navigation system with GPS/GLONASS receiver

From September 23 to October 18, 2010 CompaNav-2 integrated navigation system with GPS/GLONASS navigation receiver SN-4706 of NAVIS Inc. took part in flight tests with the goal of evaluation joint performance characteristics. The flight test consisted of 18 flights with 62 hours total time in the air. The flight evaluation of navigation receiver performance was positive for each of the operation modes:
  • GPS
  • GLONASS
  • GPS + GLONASS
The best performance was achieved in combined "GPS + GLONASS" mode. As the results of performance evaluation were positive, the GPS/GLONASS receiver is included into Portable Glass Cockpit equipment set to substitute currently used GPS-only GNSS module. The PGC-A software provides three operation modes (GPS, GLONASS or combined GPS+GLONASS) with manual mode switch. The default operation mode is "GPS + GLONASS".
